2017 saw Key 103’s Cash for Kids help over 62,909 local children through the generous donations and fundraising from businesses and individuals across Greater Manchester. This money is then grant funded to projects across the region to help disabled and disadvantaged children who need it most.
The Fed, a leading social care charity for the Jewish Community in Manchester based in Prestwich, applied to Cash for Kids for £700 to buy cycling equipment for their Children’s Centre.
Many of the children attending The Fed’s children’s centre have complex health needs as well as cognitive or developmental disabilities. Many have been unable to ride a bike or are told by doctors and other health care providers that they will never be able to ride a bike.
The money granted by Key 103’s Cash for Kids was used to purchase a range of bikes and adapted trikes for the use of children in The Fed’s Children’s Centre.
One child who benefits from The Fed said, “I have a bike with my name on it, it has stabilisers so I can now ride a bike, yippee!”
The bikes and trikes have provided the children with the chance to undertake cycling, an activity they may never have had access to previously. The bikes provide all children with a means for social inclusion, interaction and play as well as encouraging physical activity, which in turn has improved their mental health and wellbeing.
Lucy Edwards from The Fed commented, “The grant from Key 103’s Cash for Kids has been hugely beneficial to the kids who come to our Children’s Centre. The bikes have allowed them to learn new skills and integrate with other kids in the community.”
Michelle Williamson, Charity Manager for Key 103’s Cash for Kids said, “Helping The Fed and these great kids wouldn’t have be possible without the generous donations from the people of Greater Manchester. Again and again the people of this city come together to help those less fortunate, we hope to continue to support amazing projects across Greater Manchester in 2018.”
