A man has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after violating a court order by committing an indecent act at Peterborough Rowing Club.

Gary Smith, 51, of no fixed address, was observed by members of the public engaging in a sexual act at Thorpe Meadows on 20 April. This act contravened a ten-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) issued in 2019, which prohibited him from:

Being within 200 metres of any swimming pool or leisure centre

Being within 100 metres of any school or college

Entering areas of public parks or gardens

Smith admitted to breaching the order and was sentenced at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 23 May.

PC Finlay McLeish, who made the arrest, stated: "Smith has now been convicted of four breaches of the order, all resulting in time in prison. Orders such as these mean we can arrest for every breach."
