A 31-year-old man from Cambridge has been jailed for two years and six months after sending a sexual video of himself to a 13-year-old girl.

Andrew Murray, of St Bedes Crescent, was believed to have been making unsolicited sexual calls to random numbers when he contacted the victim on 7th October.

The girl recorded the call and informed her mum, who then contacted the police. The recording captured Murray asking for her age before he sent the explicit video of himself performing a sexual act.

Further investigation revealed that Murray’s actions also breached an existing sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). He admitted to causing a child aged 13 to 15 to view an image of sexual activity and three counts of breaching his SHPO.

He was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday to serve two years and six months in prison.

Detective Sergeant Andy Harding acknowledged the courage shown by the victim.

“The fact Murray ascertained the age of the child and continued to send the explicit video of himself, makes his actions all the more despicable," Harding said.

“This event was traumatising for the teenager. Her swift actions were truly courageous and her calm, sensible reactions meant we could arrest Murray with proof of the encounter.”
