A man from Wiltshire will begin a challenge today to skateboard the distance from Kyiv to the Polish border.

Jon Wills, who is 42 and from Chippenham, is doing it to raise money for Ukrainians fleeing the war with Russia.

He plans to cover the 372 miles needed by going backwards and forwards along the Bristol to Bath cycle path 28 times, over six days.

"Like many others in the World I'm feeling frustrated not being able to help in the awful situation between Ukraine and Russia," his Go Fund Me page reads.

"So many people are heading to the Polish boarder to escape the ongoing war.

"Leaving their homes, friends and family behind in order to survive.

"The distance from Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital to the Polish boarder is 372 miles.

"In order to raise money to help this country I am going to travel this distance over 6 days - on my skateboard."

Jon is aiming to raise £5,000 for the United Kingdom Committee for UNICEF and at the time of writing he has already collected more than £1,100.

Comments left by those to have donated so far include "mad respect for this" and "you're a hero."

"Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me," Jon says on the donation page.
