Two separate protests are taking place in College Green this Saturday, 12 February 2022.

A demonstration against the expansion of Bristol Airport has been organised by Bristol Airport Action Network (BAAN).

It follows the decision by the Planning Inspectorate to grant planning for expansion works at Bristol Airport.

From 10:30 to midday, organisers will set the stage for a range of speakers who will reflect on the decision and look towards the continuing campaign to reverse what they describe as an 'undemocratic ruling' by the Planning Inspectorate.

This is only the first demonstration expected to take place in the city centre this Saturday.

From 1pm, several campaigning groups are organising an afternoon of demonstrations against the rise of living costs and hikes in energy bills.

It's part of a national day of action led by the People's Assembly Against Austerity, which will see demonstrations up and down the country against the government.

Last week, energy regulator Ofgem announced a 54% rise in the energy price cap from April, amid soaring wholesale gas prices. It will mean the average energy bill is set to rise by almost £700 a year.

Organisers have set up an event on Facebook,

The event is being organised by Bristol's People's Assembly, the Bristol Corona Crisis group and Bristol's COP 26 Coalition.

Elsewhere, protests are being organised in cities like London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Brighton, Cardiff, Glasgow, Lancaster, Liverpool, Birmingham, Eastbourne and Southampton.
