From tomorrow, the operator of e-scooters in the West Country will be launching 'shared WESTbike e-bikes' on the streets of Bristol.

They'll be rolling out 500 of the bikes, which will be complementing the 2000-strong number of e-scooters following TIER's takeover of the scheme back in October from the previous operator, Voi.

The WESTbike fleet consists of TIER’s latest e-bike model, the TIER 3, to Bristol.

According to the firm, the bike features user touch points highlighted in orange, an updated electric motor controller and an upgraded battery pack - which is interchangeable across the full e-bike and e-scooter fleet - with Bristol being the first city the firm has rolled this kind of technology out here in the UK.

Jessica Murphy, Head of Public Policy, UK, commented: “E-bikes are great for longer journeys and great for people who would rather be seated while travelling and with the front basket suit people taking a journey with a bigger bag.

"With the addition of the WESTbike e-bikes we have added another 500 vehicles to the Bristol fleet, improving availability at the same time as bringing a new mode to the city. This is the first time e-bikes have been added to the micro-mobility service in Bristol, there will be a period of adjustment as we make changes to ensure we are meeting the needs of users.

"We hope the public enjoys the new vehicles and are inspired to try out some new trips by WESTbike!”

The third part of the new operator's service, called WESTcargo, is also expected to roll-out soon.
