Avon and Somerset Police have released an update on a man they were looking for after absconding from HMP Leyhill.

Andrew Sheriff, 50, was on day release from HMP Leyhill where he's serving a custodial sentence for rape.

He was due to return to the prison at 4pm yesterday but failed to turn up.

Avon and Somerset Police say he has now been arrested.

In a statement yesterday afternoon, the force said: "Yesterday (Friday 9 December), we issued an wanted appeal to find HMP Leyhill absconder Andrew Sherriff.

"We are pleased to confirm he was arrested today (Saturday 10 December).

"Thank you for sharing our appeal and your ongoing support."
