Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed a person has died following a crash on the M4 (March 26).

They were called to the westbound carriageway earlier this afternoon - but the road was closed for some time in both directions.

Officers first received the call at around 1pm to a report of a crash between a lorry and a car between Junction 18 (Bath) and Junction 19 (M32) - and despite the best efforts of emergency services, one person died at the scene.

Their family is being offered support by a specialist family liaison officer.

Four people have been taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening or life changing.

The motorway was closed in both directions to allow emergency services to respond - but this evening, it's been confirmed both carriageways have now been reopened.

If you witnessed the collision, or have any information or relevant footage which could aid the police with their investigation, you are urged to get in touch with them.
