Man arrested after stabbing in North Somerset

A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause GBH after a stabbing in North Somerset.

Following reports from passers-by, the force say officers were called out to Worle High Street 'almost immediately' - and say they are 'grateful to members of the public who assisted'.

It happened at just before 4.30pm this afternoon (May 30), with the injured man taken to hospital by air ambulance.

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police said: "Police were called to Worle High Street at 4.24pm today by witnesses reporting that a man had been stabbed.

"A man in his sixties was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at 4.28pm.

"The injured man, who is in his fifties, is in hospital in a stable condition. His next of kin is aware."

As of this evening (19:50), Worle High Street remains closed for police investigations between Bideford Road and Westwood Close.

Locals are advised there'll be an increased police presence as investigations are carried out.
