Man arrested after RUH and primary school locked down over verbal phone threats
A man in his 40s is in custody
A man in his 40s has been arrested after Royal United Hospital in Bath and a local primary school were locked down earlier today (2 February) for a short time.
Police attended after a report by hospital staff of a man making verbal threats by phone.
Officers say, a short time later, there was also a report of a man in the area carrying an unknown item.
Reports suggested this could have been a 'bladed weapon' - however this is yet to be confirmed.
The hospital decided to go into a lockdown and we advised a nearby school to take a similar precautionary measure. Both lockdowns were lifted in the early-afternoon and access to both the hospital and school are now unrestricted.
A man in his 40s has now been arrested on suspicion of making threatening communications and he is in police custody.
