It's hoped a movie being filmed at Cheddar Gorge will provide a big boost to the local economy and more interest in the area.

There's rumours the director in question is Danny Boyle, the man behind Trainspotting and 127 Hours, but Somerset Council haven't confirmed that. It's widely reported that scenes from 28 Years Later are being shot in Somerset. which is part of the director's ongoing 'zombie apocalypse' franchise.

Screen Somerset say they've tried to limit disruption in the area as the school summer holidays get underway, with shops and the caves still open.

Mark Ford from Screen Somerset said: "It's a major feature film and it's a really good opportunity.

"It's being filmed in various parts of the country and the director paid a visit to Cheddar a few months ago and loved it."

It's thought the famous Somerset site will feature in a couple of key scenes at the end of the new movie.

The county actively promotes itself as a filming destination, with Cheddar Gorge previously playing host to 2013 fantasy film Jack the Giant Slayer, starring Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy and Ian McShane.

Wells cathedral has also appeared in Hot Fuzz with Simon Pegg and Elizabeth: The Golden Age with Cate Blanchett, as well as a Dungeons and Dragons film. The beaches at Berrow and Burnham-on-Sea have also attracted on-screen attention.

In a post online, Somerset Council warned the B3135 Cliff Road in Cheddar Gorge, will be closed from Monday to Friday this week.
