Grand Pier fireworks event postponed because of Storm Ciarán
Organisers behind the event in Weston-super-Mare have called off this week's event because of the bad weather
The Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare's confirmed this Friday's Fireworks At Sea event has been cancelled because of concerns over the weather.
They say they're actively working to secure a new date, as Storm Ciarán rolls in across the West Country.
The annual event is called one of the 'highlights' of the local calendar, with visitors flocking to the promenade and the Pier itself for an evening of Bonfire Night celebrattions.
Organisers have pencilled-in February 17 as a potential new date for the postponed event.
In a post on X, formally Twitter, organisers said: "It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that unfortunately, we are having to postpone our Fireworks at Sea event due to take place this Friday.
"The decision has been made by the third-party company responsible for putting on the annual fireworks display.
"They have raised concerns regarding the current unsettled weather conditions sweeping across the UK and the unpredictable direction and speed of the wind, deeming it unsafe for the general public to enjoy the display.
"We are actively working to secure a new date, tentatively set for Saturday 17th February 2024, pending final confirmation.
"Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year for our spectacular Fireworks at Sea display!"
