First Bus have announced changes to Bristol's bus network, including the reintroduction of the X49 bus and two new cross-city services.

The X49 service will run again as a morning express bus between Staple Hill and the city centre.

The 70 service that goes from the University of the West of England to Temple Meads is merging with the 90 between Filwood Park and the city centre and will run every 20 minutes.

Another big merge is with the 73 between Bradley Stoke and Temple Meads and the 92 between Hengrove and the city centre.

These changes are part of their bi-annual review of Bristol's routes and will come in on Sunday 3rd September.

Here some of the other changes:

  • The 48a service from UWE to Stapleton Road will now run every 15 minutes as the new academic year begins.
  • The U2 service between the University of Bristol Langford Campus and the city centre will now run every hour until 11pm on weekdays and every two hours at the weekend.
  • The Y6 service between the bus station and Southmead Hospital will travel further, via Park Street, Whiteladies Road, Blackboy Hill, Northumbria Drive and Henleaze Road.
  • The M1 metrobus will now leave every 10 minutes in the morning, and 20 in the evening.
  • There will be an additional service in the evening peak service.

Rob Pymm, Commercial Director for First West of England, said: “Our two new cross-city services will improve connections between important areas of Bristol and make travelling around the city easier and cheaper for our customers.

“With lots of other improvements being made to other routes, including increased frequencies, and with adult and child single fares still £2 and £1 respectively and our on-board Tap On, Tap Off technology making payment quick and easy, we’re making bus travel accessible to even more people.”
