Fire rips 'through roof' of former Bristol funeral directors

The blaze started at just before 8pm at the old Co-Op Funeralcare building on Church Road

Avon Fire and Rescue teams are currently at the scene of a blaze of the former Co-Op Funeralcare on Church Road in Bristol.

The fire service were called out to the incident at 19:52 this evening (June 4), with a large number of appliances rushed to the scene.

Firefighters have also been equipped with full breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze, with locals nearby reporting 'big plumes of smoke' billowing over the Lawrence Hill area.

Six engines were deployed, two with high-reaching ladders, from a number of stations across the region - involving teams from Temple, Kingswood, Bedminster and Weston-Super-Mare.

Speaking to us, Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed reports of the fire burning through the roof of the building on Church Road.

Firefighters are now working to bring the incident under control.
