Climber dies after fall near Clifton Suspension Bridge

A man has died after falling from a popular rock climbing spot near the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.

Emergency Services were called to the scene at 3:44pm on Sunday 23rd March after reports of a climber falling from a height in the Avon Gorge.

Avon and Somerset Police say despite the best efforts of the ambulance service, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been informed.

The A4 Portway was closed while emergency services responded, but reopened on Sunday evening.
