Claudia Fragapane retires from gymnastics

The Bristolian, who's also been on Strictly Come Dancing, says she's ready for the 'next chapter' after 20 years

British artistic gymnast Claudia Fragapane has announced she's stepping back from the sport - after 20 years.

The 26-year-old, who grew up in Bristol, started in the sport at the age of six, and has a number of medals to hew name - including Team Gold, which she helped win in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birimingham.

She has called it 'a journey I will never forget'.

In a statement on Instagram, Claudia said: "The time has come to hang up my leotard & retire from gymnastics.

"20 years of wearing leotards, flipping around, hair slicked back & it’s all come to an end! A journey I will never forget.

"I can look back at my life as a gymnast & know that I’ve done everything that I wanted to achieve! If not more! 



"I was holding back the happy tears talking about all the memories in my career. The biggest thank you has to go to my coaches & family who has been a massive part of my journey.

"Friends, physios, doctors, strength & conditioning, national coaches & media team! The list goes on & on…
Every single person who has been through my gymnastics journey, from 6yrs - 26yrs, has helped me so much!

"I would not be the person I am today without you. You all know how much you’ve helped me! Big or small it’s made me who I am today & I am forever grateful.

"Here’s to the next chapter of Claudia Fragapane…"
