By-election results in Somerset

Voters took to the polls in Rowbarton and Staplegrove and Blackmoor Vale

Voters in two different parts of Somerset have chosen between four candidates in two crucial by-elections.

The Liberal Democrats have held onto Rowbarton and Staplegrove, though Counillor Hayward Burt has taken the win for the Conservatives in Blackmoor Vale.

Blackmoor Vale was previously held by the Lib Dems - but Sarah Dyke resigned from the Council to focus on MP duties.

Both Ms Dyke and Dixie Darch formally stepped down in mid-October.

Ms Dyke resigned from Somerset Council to focus on her role as Glastonbury and Somerton MP.

Whereas, Ms Darch said it was "time for new blood" and wanted to spend more time with her family.

The result of the by election held on 21 November 2024 for the vacant seat in Blackmoor Vale division on Somerset Council is as follows:

Hayward Burt (Conservative) – 1,120 (elected); Howard Ellard (Liberal Democrat) – 714; Peter Ebsworth (Green Party) – 86; Gregory Chambers (Labour) – 32.

The turnout was 26.07% and there were four rejected ballot papers.

The result of the by election held on 21 November 2024 for the vacant seat in the two-seat Rowbarton and Staplegrove division Somerset Council is as follows:

Nick O’Donnell (Liberal Democrat) – 817 (elected); Pete Prior-Sankey (Conservative) – 396; Alan Debenham (Green Party) – 102; Moya Doherty (Labour) – 86.

The turnout was 18.32% and two ballot papers were rejected.
