Bristol Rovers have sacked manager Matt Taylor after a 2-0 loss away to Birmingham City on Saturday (14th December) left the club 20th in League One, just two points above the relegation zone.

Assistant manager Wayne Carlisle has also been relieved of his duties, with David Horseman and Lee Cattermole set to take interim charge of the team while the search for a permanent replacement begins.

Rovers have won just six of their 19 games in the league so far this season and have lost their last three games in a row, against Birmingham, Leyton Orient and Blackpool. The club's last victory came in the FA Cup second round via penalties, when they saw off Barnsley after the game ended 0-0 in normal time.

It also took Rovers extra time to beat non league Weston-super-Mare in the first round.

In a statement posted on the club website a spokesperson said: "The Club would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Matt and Wayne for all their hard work during their time with Bristol Rovers, and we wish them both every success in their respective future careers."
