Games would be held at Ashton Gate
Bristol could host matches at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2035, with Ashton Gate chosen as the city’s proposed venue.
The leader of Bristol City Council says the bid is a chance to showcase the West Country’s diversity and growing passion for women’s football.
Councillor Tony Dyer, Leader of Bristol City Council, shares a message following the announcement that the Football Associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales have collectively submitted a joint bid to host the Women’s Football World Cup in 2035. Ashton Gate has been chosen as Bristol’s proposed venue for the tournament.
“We fully back the bid to bring the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2035 to the UK in what would be one of the most inclusive, welcoming and inspiring events our country has witnessed. The success of the Lionesses is inspiring and empowering people across the West of England. Our region has seen the number of women’s and girls’ teams double during the past decade with our city being home to Bristol City Women’s Football Club, one of the country’s best supported women’s football teams.
“Our city stands ready to invite the world to experience the very finest West Country welcome and offer the chance to learn, through the power of football, about our diverse communities, and the cultural heritage we share with so many nations across the world. We look forward to supporting the bid and hope to have the chance to be part of what could be one of the biggest sporting events seen on these shores.”
