A man has been arrested as police investigate the death of a dog in Weston-super-Mare.

Officers were called to reports of a man attacking an animal in the Worle area just after 5:45pm on Saturday.

Just after 6pm, a man in his 50s was detained on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries, including a vet's examination of the dog's remains.
