Police are investigating a collision in Poole last night (Wednesday 4th) in which a 24-year-old woman died.

Officers received a report of concern for the welfare of a woman who was seen walking eastbound on the A35 Upton bypass, from Upton towards the Shell garage, at around 8.10pm.

Shortly afterwards, the woman was involved in a collision with a vehicle.

The pedestrian, who is from the Poole area, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead there.

Dorset Police has said the road will remain closed into Thursday morning to allow for specialist officers to examine the scene.

Police Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said:

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died in this collision and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.

“We know there were a large number of witnesses to this incident and I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to speak to any motorists who saw or captured dashcam footage of the woman walking along the dual carriageway, the manner of driving of other motorists or the moments leading up to the collision to contact us.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place.”
