Weymouth marking Armed Forces Day over four days
Events kick off this evening (Friday 21st June) with a military convoy

Weymouth will celebrate Armed Forces Day over this weekend (Friday 21st to Monday 24th June), with a series of free events to take part in.
They start with a convoy of World War Two military vehicles travelling along the seafront and parking up on the promenade by the Jubilee Clock.
That's taking place from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
Saturday (22nd June) will see the Pavilion Forecourt used between 10.00am and 2.30pm for a historic vehicle display, and a parade along the Esplanade from 12.30pm.
Charity and community stalls will also be set up, with live music throughout the day.
A special commemoration service will be held at Weymouth's Cenotaph on Sunday (23rd June) at 11.00am, opposite the Prince Regent Hotel.
That'll be followed by a parade along the seafront with marching bands and military vehicles.
Afterwards, entertainment and vehicle displays will be held in the Pavilion Forecourt and on the beach opposite Alexandra Gardens.
Free parking is available for those taking part in the events at Lodmoor car park and the rear Pavilion car park, with a shuttle bus for veterans running fomr 12.30pm to 4.00pm.
Monday (24th June) will see a flag raising ceremony at the Weymouth Town Council offices in Commercial Road at 10.30am.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Jon Orrell, said:
“From honouring our veterans to recognising the work of our serving armed forces personnel, Weymouth Town Council is organising a host of events over Armed Forces Weekend which this year starts on Friday 21st June.
“Hot on the heels of the commemorations for D-Day 80, join us as we pay our respect to the resilience of our Armed Forces communities. We’ll have military vehicle convoys and displays, a service and parade, along with music and entertainment from the era to entertain the whole family at this prestigious event.”
Cllr Joanna Dickenson, whose son is currently serving on a submarine in the Royal Navy, added:
“Having recently taken on the role of Armed Forces Covenant Champion at the Council, I am honoured to be attending the service at the Cenotaph on Sunday as part of Armed Forces Weekend.”
