Security cameras are going to be fitted to one of Weymouth's oldest and most historic buildings.

Weymouth Civic Society have been given permission to install 8 devices on Tudor House in Trinity Street.

They say the cameras will protect the museum's collections and monitor visitor movements for health and safety.

The building dates back to between 1603 and 1610.

The Weymouth Civic Society took ownership of it in 1944, and runs it as a museum.

In a report by a Dorset Council planning officer, they said:

“It is considered that although there will be some harm to the architectural interest of the interiors by the installation of the cameras, this will be less than substantial.

“In this case the public benefit of installing the cameras, can be outweighed by the benefit of allowing the public to view the interior of the house, and keep the building in sustainable use.”
