Prolific Bournemouth shoplifter jailed and banned from stores
33 year old Jamie Peter Campion admitted 12 theft charges
A prolific shoplifter from Bournemouth has been jailed for two and a half years, and banned from stores he targeted.
3\3 year old Jamie Peter Campion has been sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court, after admitting 12 charges.
He also pleaded guilty to four breaches of a criminal behaviour order and asked for 37 further shoplifting offences to be taken into consideration.
The thefts all happened between June and August this year, at Tesco and Co-Op stores in North Bournemouth.
PC Matt Cave, of the North Bournemouth Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:
“Jamie Campion is a prolific shoplifter and we recognise the impact repeat offending of this nature can have on businesses.
“Officers from the neighbourhood policing team have worked with the Investigation Resolution Centre’s Retail Team to investigate this series of offences, compile evidence and ultimately bring Campion to justice for his repeated crimes.
“We have also been able to secure restraining orders to protect businesses from his criminality in the future.
“Through Op Shopkeeper, Dorset Police is committed to identifying prolific thieves who cause harm to businesses and taking robust action against them.”
David Sidwick, Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset, said:
“Shoplifting impacts on the profitability of a business, affects employees mental wellbeing and results in higher prices for paying customers.
“Operation Shopkeeper was introduced last year, and involves the Force’s frontline and backroom office staff working closely to target the most prolific offenders. It has been a success, with 32 individuals charged with a combined 604 offences over an 11-month period.
“A well-functioning multi-agency approach now exists in Bournemouth involving Dorset Police, the CCTV control room, council town rangers and the Business Improvement District. The Dorset Safer Business Partnership and Business Crime Reduction Partnership have also been set up since 2021, with funding support from my office.
“The Partnerships gives businesses access to a crime reporting platform where incidents and threats can be logged, alerting members about updates on repeat offenders in the area, and this latest conviction gives further evidence that our approach to tackling retail crime here in Dorset is proving effective.”
