A Poole man's been jailed for 18 years for an assault in Bournemouth, described by Dorset Police as 'brutal'.

31 year old Ainsley Greer has been sentenced today (Thursday 8th May) after being found guilty of attempted murder in March.

The incident happened in shared accommodation in Westover Road in Bournemouth, in November 2023.

A man was found by ambulance crew with significant injuries - including a brain injury, fractured ankle, broken nose, damaged ribs and a collapsed lung.

Police began an investigation, with Greer arrested.

During their enquiries, detectives found he had assaulted the victim twice over a 48 hour period, with one of the attacks filmed on an iPad, with the defendant's voice heard on the recording.

Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of Dorset Police, said: “First and foremost my thoughts are with the victim in this case. I sincerely hope that he recovers both physically and mentally in respect of the injuries he sustained during the attack.

“This was a detailed and thorough investigation carried out by detectives from the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Criminal Investigation Department, supported by other specialist departments. I would like to express my thanks to all those involved in the investigation, especially the officer in the case, Detective Constable Samantha James.

“Ainsley Greer carried out a sustained violent attack upon the victim that inflicted some serious injuries. The assaults were unprovoked and could have quite easily led to fatal consequences. As a result of his senseless actions, he has quite rightly received a lengthy custodial sentence.”
