Man dies in hospital nine days after Weymouth assault

A man has died nine days after an alleged serious assault in Weymouth.

75 year old Anthony Jacob from the town was found with head and facial injuries in Abbotsbury Road on the evening of Tuesday 10th December and taken to hospital.

He passed away there yesterday afternoon (Thursday 19th December).

19 year old Jake Saunders from Weymouth was arrested and charged following the incident.

He appeared at Poole Magistrates Court last Friday (13th December) and is next due before Bournemouth Crown Court on January 9th 2025.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third, of Dorset's Major Crime Investigation Team, said:

“Following the sad death of Anthony Jacob, detectives from MCIT have now taken on this investigation. Specially trained officers are supporting the family during this difficult time.

“We are grateful to members of the public who have provided information to assist our enquiries so far, and I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.

“I would like to remind members of the public that court proceedings are active and there should be no commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these proceedings.”
