Leakers Bakery in Bridport to close after 20 years
They say it's due to risings costs for raw ingredients and energy prices
A well known bakery in Bridport is closing after 20 years due to the current climate of rising costs.
Leakers Bakery in East Street described it as a very difficult decision, and have made the announcement on their social media.
Their last day of trading will be Friday 14th October.
In their statement Leakers Bakery say rising costs of ingredients plus the energy crisis has made their situation unsustainable.
They say:
"Sadly the current climate of escalating costs puts us in a position of uncertainty. In tandem with rising costs of raw ingredients, our energy costs particularly are unsustainable – our plans for solar panels were not allowed (conservation) and any heat reclamation has been ruled out in our old building.
"As you may know, we first took over Leakers in 2002 and along with a wonderful team we have continued to bake and supply the local community throughout challenging times including the recent pandemic. "
