Popular indoor adventure park Flip Out Poole is set to close from today following the discovery of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in part of its roof.
A full investigation by structural engineers at The Dolphin shopping centre, where the facility is based, confirmed that the issue is confined to a single section of the building.
As a result, the rest of the shopping centre will remain open throughout the repair works – allowing retailers a chance to breathe a sigh of relief.
John Grinnell, Centre Manager of The Dolphin, stressed that safety remains the top priority: “Our structural and building engineers have assessed the affected areas and have confirmed there is no imminent danger to visitors or staff.”
RAAC, a lightweight material commonly used in public buildings between the 1950s and 1990s, has raised safety concerns in recent years due to its potential to degrade over time.
But, Legal & General - owners of The Poole Dolphin Centre, say the closure is a precautionary measure.
“These works are a proactive measure to avoid any potential unsafe conditions in the future,” Grinnell added. “This is isolated to Flip Out and doesn’t affect the rest of the centre.”
All customers with bookings during the closure will receive full refunds from Flip Out. In the meantime, visitors are encouraged to explore other attractions in the centre, including High Score Arcades and The Project Climbing Centre.
The reopening date for Flip Out Poole has not yet been confirmed, but the centre aims to resume operations “as soon as possible.”
