Coronation Community Concert to be held on Weymouth Beach
Local acts and performers will take to the stage
A Coronation Community Concert is going to be held on Weymouth Beach.
Weymouth Town Council have announced it will take place on Sunday 8th May.
There will be a stage on the beach featuring local acts and performance groups, topped up with a headlining local band.
A fireworks display is also planned for Sunday night.
Councillors also agreed funding worth £1,000 to encourage community groups to take part in the Big Help Out volunteering event on Monday 8th May, with £100 available to groups towards the cost of putting on an activity.
This complements the small grants available for community celebrations over the special weekend which was made at a previous meeting.
Local charities and organisations will soon be able to apply for grants of up to £350 to put on community picnics, flower shows, art projects, exhibitions or displays.
Free Parking
Events in Weymouth to benefit from the addition of free parking in some of Dorset Council’s car parks to help encourage more footfall in the town were also decided.
The events selected so far include the Armed Forces Service Parade on 18th June, Weymouth Beach Motocross on 15th October, and the Weymouth Christmas Lights switch-on event on 25th November.
A fourth event will be announced at a later date.
Cllr Ryan Hope, Chair of Services Committee, said: “From the King’s Coronation weekend to the events selected to benefit from free parking, Weymouth will be home to a fantastic array of family-friendly activities over the coming months which will appeal to residents and visitors alike.
"We will also be sharing further details on how groups can apply for funding towards putting on their own activities for the coronation of King Charles III, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the town comes together to celebrate this historic milestone.”
