Tributes paid to Aston Villa legend
Peter McParland had been the last surviving member of the club’s 1957 FA Cup-winning team and scored both goals in the match
Tributes are being paid to former Villa player Peter McParland who's died at the age of 91.
He'd been the last surviving member of the club’s 1957 FA Cup-winning team.
He scored both goals during that famous 2-1 victory over Manchester United.
McParland was a league cup winner with Villa too scoring as they beat Rotherham 3-2 on aggregate during the competition's inaugural final.
He became the first footballer to score in the finals of both domestic knockout competitions.
McParland played as either a centre forward or on the left wing.
In addition he played for Northern Ireland having been born in Newry.
In total he secured 34 international caps.
That led to him becoming the first Villa player to ever take part in the World Cup finals which took place in 1958..
