Firefighters are tackling a fire on a heavy goods vehicle at a workshop in Birmingham.

Around 25 firefighters were called out to an intense lorry blaze in Bordesley. The vehicle caught fire just before 10.20am on Monday in Garrison Street as the road was sealed off.

Fire engines from Highgate, Ward End, Hay Mills, Handsworth, Ladywood and Billesley are in attendance,

The fire was sending thick plumes of black smoke which could be seen over the city centre. West Midlands Police closed off the road while crews used a hydraulic platform to tackle the flames.

People were taking to social media to post pictures of the columns of smoke. This is a live incident and we will be bringing you updates as we get them.

Due to large amounts of smoke, residents and businesses in the area are advised to close doors and windows.
