Man pleads guilty to killing mother and daughter in Birmingham collision
Amanda Riley, 49, and Linda Philips, 72, both died on 26th December 2023
A man has pleaded guilty to killing a mother and daughter in a collision in Birmingham on Boxing Day in 2023.
Mohammed Ibrahim from Sheldon, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The 25-year-old killed Amanda Riley, 49, and Linda Philips, 72, following a collision on Meadway at the junction with Kitt’s Green Road, in Shard End, Birmingham.
Ibrahim initially fled the scene but was later arrested when he arrived at hospital.
Investigations found that he was driving between 80 and 84 miles-per-hour when the speed limit was 30.
Ibrahim was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing 16 July.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police's serious collision investigation unit, said:
“Amanda and Linda tragically lost their lives, and others were injured due to the selfishness and dangerous driving of Ibrahim.
“He made no attempt to help anyone and ran off, rather than face up to what he'd done, but we managed to quickly identify and arrest him.
“This incident has devastated a family who we have continued to support during these tragic times.
“Nothing will ever bring Amanda or Linda back, but we hope that this plea will provide the family with a sense of justice.”
