A couple who plotted to assault and rob a man who was found dead at his flat in Wolverhampton have been convicted of his killing.

Ricardo Maragliano was found in his flat on Thorneycroft Lane on 30th May, 2023 and he was sadly confirmed dead at the scene by medics.

His Rolex watch and jewellery had been taken.

Yesterday at Wolverhampton Crown Court Ovidiu Gurita, was found guilty of murder and Vasilica Bornescu guilty of manslaughter.

They were both convicted of robbery and supplying cocaine.

Mr Maragliano who was 34, was found with cuts, bruises and other injuries.

Forensic examinations revealed that the couple’s fingerprints were found at the scene, and DNA from evidence pointed to Bornescu.

Within days of Mr Maragliano's death the couple had sold the jewellery and Rolex watch they had taken from him and bought a car.

The cause of Mr Maragiano's death remains inconclusive, but the jury heard that he had suffered a compression to his neck.

Detective Inspector Ade George, from the Homicide Unit, said:

"The teams have worked painstakingly to investigate this tragic death, and bring some answers for Mr Maragliano's family.

"This couple callously plotted and then carried out a targeted attack on Mr Maragiano with the aim of stealing from him. And sadly this attack resulted in his death for which both have now been held to account."

Gurita, aged 39, and Bornescu, aged 34, both formerly of Hunter Street, Wolverhampton, will be sentenced on Thursday (17th July).
