A care worker from Oldbury who stole £40,000 from vulnerable people has been jailed

As part of her job, Toni Wilkinson would take adults with learning difficulties to the shops

But while there, she would use their bank card to withdraw cash without them knowing, and keeping the money for herself

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police has said:

Wilkinson, reported herself to police in August 2023, saying she was ashamed she had stolen the money, with the full total working out as more than £40,000 from two people.

She told officers she had, on occasion, taken one of the vulnerable adults' bank card and used it to withdraw money without them knowing.

The money, she claimed, had been used to pay for household bills and debts.

Wilkinson, of Oldbury, admitted fraud by abuse of position and was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on 14 March to two and a half years in prison.

Every year, the British public loses billions of pounds to fraudsters.

Some adults may be especially vulnerable to fraud and financial abuse.
