Birmingham Airport said this festive season will be busier than last, with around half a million of us expected to arrive and depart from the airport.

They said the busiest time is the 20th December until the 6th of January.

There is an increase of 11% predicted for this Christmas compared to 2023.

Birmingham Airport Commercial Director, Ricard Gill, told us that number keeps rising:

"Around half a million are expected to travel with us this festive period, which has been increasing year-on-year.

"We have got a really smooth operation here. 88% of our customers were processed through security within 20 minutes in November," he said.

The airport has issued guidance for passengers travelling at this time of year.

Wrapped presents should not be taken in any item of luggage. The airport said this proves problematic when it comes to security.

Crackers should not travel with you either as they can often pop in luggage.

Richard Gill told us some other items are not advised:

"We know a lot of our customers have been to the German Market in Birmingham City Centre and have bought snow globes.

"We cannot tell the amount of liquid in a snow globe so these should not go in your cabin bag, but can be placed in your hold luggage," he said.

The most popular destinations are expected to be Amsterdam, Dublin and Dubai.
