Man in 'serious' condition in hospital following early-morning assault in Peebles

A 29-year-old man is said to be in a "serious" condition in hospital after being assaulted in the centre of Peebles.

The incident unfolded on the High Street - near the entrance to Saint Michael's Wynd - between 1.30am and 2am yesterday (Wednesday).

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Constable Lucy Inglis said: "Our enquiries are at an early stage to establish more information on the circumstances surrounding this assault and to identify the person responsible.

"I would urge anyone who was in the High Street area early on Wednesday morning who witnessed this, or who has any information or personal footage that may assist us, to come forward.

"Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference number 0339 of 16 July, 2025. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
