The windows of an office belonging to developers behind plans for one of the biggest wind farms in the Borders have been smashed overnight.

The Muirhall Energy base in Hawick's North Bridge Street was targeted between 2am and 3am yesterday (Thursday) morning.

Damage is estimated to be in the region of £3000, and police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

The company wants to build 52 turbines on land east of Priesthaugh in Hawick.

But councillors refused to support the Teviot wind farm application when it came before Scottish Borders Council’s planning committee on March 3rd - despite their officers recommendation.

It means a public inquiry will have to be held before it can get the go ahead.

Concerns were raised over the adverse visual impact of the turbines, with maximum tip heights of up to 240 meters.

The developer says the wind farm would make a substantial contribution towards net zero energy targets.

They also state it could be worth millions of pounds each year to the local economy and provide up to 29 jobs in the region.

A suspect in the vandalism attack was reportedly seen leaving the area on a bike.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Between 2am and 3am, on Thursday (May 15th), windows at Muirhall Energy, North Bridge Street in Hawick were smashed.

"We are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV or Dashcam footage which may assist the enquiry to please contact the police on 101, quoting incident 0402 of 15/05/2025.

"Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
