A 65-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after the motorcycle he was on crashed in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the B6357 road at Bonchester Bridge after the alarm was raised around 1pm on Saturday (October 11th).

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the bronze BMW R1250 bike, and who has information which could help, to contact them.

Sergeant Michael Shillington, from Police Scotland, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking any other road users on the B6357 around the time of the crash to get in touch.

“Please check any dash-cam you have to see if anything has been captured that could assist with our investigation.”

Earlier this year, the speed limit on the road was reduced from 60mph to 50mph as part of an 18-month trial aimed at reducing the number of serious and fatal motorbike crashes on the road.

However, it is not known if speed was a factor on this occasion.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1544 of Saturday, October 11th.
