What is the route?
This series takes the race through one of the most diverse and visually stunning routes yet, spanning the undiscovered Caribbean and Pacific coast of Central America.
The journey begins on the idyllic Caribbean island of Isla Mujeres, just off the easternmost point of Mexico and challenges teams to race 5,900km to reach the finish line in the remote and breath-taking PenÃnsula de La Guajira in Colombia – the gateway to South America.
Which pair made it to the first checkpoint?
Starting the journey in the idyllic Caribbean island of Isla Mujeres, this year's pairs attempted to travel to the first checkpoint in Flores, a town in Guatemala’s northern Petén region.
All taking different routes and different forms of transport, it was Anita Rani and her dad Balvinder who made it to the checkpoint first, a huge 23 hours and 16 minutes faster than anybody else.
Roman and Harley Moon, Molly and Tyler, and Dylan and Jackie all made it to the checkpoint a day later, with just six hours between them.
1) Anita and Balvinder
2) Roman and Harley Moon +23h 16m
3) Molly and Tyler +24h 56m
4) Dylan and Jackie +29h 36m
Which pair made it to the second checkpoint?
Episode two saw the pairs setting off from Guatemala towards the second checkpoint at El Zonte in El Salvador, with producers setting a no travel after dark rule due to increased risk in that region.
Due to civil unrest in Guatemala at the time of filming, a national strike was announced, meaning major roads were blocked, with a lot of violent clashes also happening. For the teams who chose to travel through Guatemala, producers set a lockdown order, pausing the race leg.
Despite initially having a 23 hour lead, due to the blockages and struggles to get around, Anita and Balvinder lead was cut to just 3.5 hours, with less than an hour splitting the other three teams.
1) Anita and Balvinder
2) Roman and Harley Moon +3h 35m
3) Molly and Tyler +3h 53m
4) Dylan and Jackie +3h 57m
Which pair made it to the third checkpoint?
Episode three saw the pairs attempting to make it to the third checkpoint in Valle de Angeles, Honduras, which is the half-way point in the race.
Despite being struck down with food poising at the beginning of the week, Tyler and Molly took a more direct route and made up time, making them the first couple to arrive at the checkpoint in Valle de Angeles.
Just seven minutes behind were Anita and Balvinder, with Dylan and Jackie just eight minutes behind the leaders. The episode finished with Roman and Harley-Moon still on a bus, attempting to find the checkpoint.
1) Molly and Tyler
2) Anita and Balvinder +7m
3) Dylan and Jackie +8m
4) Roman and Harley Moon
Which pair made it to the fourth checkpoint?
The fourth episode kicked off with Roman and Harley Moon finally joining the rest of the pairs, as they checked out the stunning views in Valle de Angeles, Honduras.
Roman received a message from the crew which read: 'It is not possible to for the race to continue Nicaragua. Teams must fly to Liberia where the race will continue'.
Due to permission for filming not being granted in Nicaragua, the pairs flew to Liberia in Costa Rica, where the race resumed and they were told that Bocas del Toro in Panama was their fourth checkpoint.
Whilst Molly and Tyler chose a coastal route, the other three pairs went in land, and it was Dylan and his mum Jackie who arrived at the fourth checkpoint first. Roman and Harley Moon also made up nearly seven hours to finish in second, with Anita and Balvinder just 12 minutes behind them.
The episode ended with Molly and Tyler not yet arriving.
1) Dylan and Jackie
2) Roman and Harley Moon +31m
3) Anita and Balvinder +43m
