Stacey Solomon reveals beloved dog Teddy is in a wheelchair after sad diagnosis

Teddy has some wheels to assist him walking

After revealing the news in April that her beloved spaniel Teddy was rushed to the vets after feeling unwell due to a predisposed condition the family were unaware of, Stacey Solomon's followers have been holding out for any updates about the little pooch.

Following another appointment at the vets in early June, Stacey told fans it would be unlikely Teddy will ever regain the feeling in his back legs, saying 'this new journey is forever'.

She said at the time: 'so many of you asking. After his vet appointment it looks likely that teddy will never get the feeling back in his legs & will need our help with urinating & assisted walks and physio forever. But the good news is... the vet was so pleased with how happy teddy was & how well we are doing his physio & managing his bladder so me & Joe were really happy with that & felt extremely proud.

'I feel sad for teddy but I'm also confident that me and Joe can give him the happiest life & all the love he deserves. So this new journey is forever. But we love teddy so much we will just keep going & do our best to find new ways to keep him healthy & happy for as long as we can 🥹' (sic).

Now, as July comes to a close, Stacey has given another update about Teddy, revealing he's now got a wheelchair to assist his back legs, giving him a second chance at life.

Sharing a super cute video of Teddy using his wheels in the garden at Pickle Cottage, Stacey said: '🐾 Our Darling Teddy 🐾 Has his wheels 🥹 We have spent the last few days trying to teach teddy a new way of getting around & he’s finally learning to love his wheels 😭 He was very nervous at first but seeing him today walking around with peanut again was so special. We have spoken to our vet & have bought teddy some wheels. If we are doing anything wrong please be kind. This is a totally new journey for us & we are doing our best to give teddy the best life he can possibly have 🥲 so just let us know if you have any tips 🐾 Teddy you’ve been such an amazing boy. We know your whole world has turned upside down but you’ve been so calm and patient and we hope we are giving you the second chance that you deserve. To the moon & back Teddy 🖤'. (sic)

After taking on board tips from fans who've experienced similar, Stacey added: 'Thank you for your messages 🥲 we are ordering him some booties & I’ve switched the wheel around. Love you guys xxxxx'. (sic)

It comes after mum-of-five Stacey held back her tears as she revealed back in April she'd cancelled various work commitments and moved to working from home in order to care for Teddy.

At the time, she said: "Hi I am sorry I haven't updated anyone. He is home now I got to bring him home last week, he made it through the operation and period of the highest risk.

"I'm not a good in person crier I hate crying in front of people and I have cried a lot so if I'd have come on here I would have just cried. I have avoided human contact so I can cry alone, but he is home and I am so grateful.

"He's not well still and has had major surgery so I have moved my work to work from home and cancelled some things for his recovery. I do physio with him everyday and I have to express his bladder for him and he's on medication."

Stacey went on to add: "Expressing his bladder has been humbling, that has made me cry cos I felt like I wasn't doing it well and being a s--t dog mum. He's on crate rest and this routine for four weeks then he has a check up.

"He might never fully recover and this might be Teddy forever. I want to give him the best chance at living a happy life. He gets sad in the crate cos he can't play with the kids."

Speaking about first signs of Teddy being unwell, Stace added: "On Good Friday he lost the use of his back legs so we went straight to the vet. They said it could be meningitis, slipped disk, tumour. So we had an MRI in Cambridge the next day. They said he had a burst disk but all of his disks and his spine is not looking good at all.

"I was worried I'd done something but it could have literally happened by him turning his head fast or something. It was a predisposed condition so he was always going to get it - it's common in Spaniels.

"There is a 30 per cent chance he might recover but he may well be disabled so I am trying to get my head around that...."

Just before the Easter weekend, Stacey first shared the news that her beloved pooch had taken a bad turn, writing: '🐾 Our darling Teddy 🐾 Teddy became suddenly unwell on Thursday. It turns out he has a predisposed condition we had no idea about as he was a rescue. He has been operated on by incredible vets and the next 3-4 days are crucial for him to get through, even then, he might not ever fully recover. We are praying and hoping so hard that he pulls through & that we can care for him in the best way we possibly can to give him the best life he can have.

'We are all truly devastated. He is the sweetest, most protective, loving dog. He’s our family. And far too young to be going through this 😢 We love you Ted. So so much. Pickle cottage is far too quiet without you. I miss my toilet buddy. Peanut is so sad without his best friend. 🖤' (sic)

Following the heartbreaking passing of her 11-year-old dog Theo in January 2022, Stacey and her husband Joe Swash made the decision to rescue Teddy just weeks later, with Stacey wanting her sausage dog Peanut to have a companion.

Teddy has since appeared heavily on Stacey's Instagram, and he even has a starring role in her new BBC reality series Stacey & Joe.
