The Traitors has gripped the nation over the last few weeks, with a new series that turned a popular parlour game into reality. Now, as the last episode aired last night (22nd December), the winners have been revealed in a tense final.

For those who haven't had a chance to catch up with the series, it saw 22 hopefuls join host Claudia Winkleman at Ardross castle in Scotland. After two were immediately eliminated before entering the castle, three were chosen as Traitors while others remained as Faithfuls.

Each of the contestants were hoping to win up to £120,000, however despite working as a team during the day to complete challenges, at night the Traitors could 'murder' other contestants.

The Traitors

Last night's episode saw the final five, Wilfred, Keiran, Aaron, Meryl and Hannah, all hoping for a share of the prize fund. As tensions rose with the money in sight, they were all asked to vote for who they thought was a Traitor, unfortunately for new (Traitor) recruit Keiran, he was chosen and banished.

After hearing he'd been voted out of the competition, Keiran left the remaining contestants questioning their choices when he revealed he had voted for Wilfred as a: "Parting gift".

Then, the attention turned to the remaining four, with Claudia giving them a choice of ending the game, if they thought they were all Faithfuls, or banishing again, if they thought there was another Traitor in the final four. 👀

Both Meryl and Wilf choosing to end the game, but it was deadlock as Aaron and Hannah wanted to banish once more following Keiran's parting comments - a huge shock for viewers after Hannah had stubbornly backed and defended Wilfred against other members' accusations from the start.

In the end Wilf was ousted as the Traitor, with each of the others voting him out of the competition, and the contestant leaving the competition.

Given the choice to end or banish again, the final three, Aaron, Meryl and Hannah, then decided to end the game, winning a total of £33,000 each. When the trio found out they'd won they started screaming: "We've done it!"

Although the series is over for now, fans are keen for another series, taking to social media, one wrote: 'Announce season 2', with another saying: 'Fantastic show! So upset that Wilf didn’t win but so happy at his reaction! Genuine nice guy!'.

The full series of The Traitors is available to watch on iPlayer.
