Stormy weather has caused commuting headaches for people across Ayrshire.

High winds from Storm Hector brought cancellations on the trains and the roads on Thursday morning.

Services on the railways between Largs, Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Kilwinning were all affected, as sea water sprayed onto overhead power lines.

After a prolonged period of good weather the whole country is covered by a yellow warning with gusts of up to 70mph until 3pm on Thursday.

Sepa issued a flood warning covering the coast from Troon to Ayr.

Fallen trees also caused significant disruption on the roads in and around Ayr.

Elsewhere in the country, several roads in Glasgow were blocked, while the Forth Road Bridge was forced to close.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: "Scotland and northern England will see that swathe of strong winds move eastwards through the day.

"The wettest weather will be out of the way but there will be some blustery showers following and with the yellow warning in force disruption is possible.

"Further spells of rain will push their way into Scotland through the night before clearer skies open out by the start of Friday."
