Coronavirus is spreading rapidly in South Ayrshire, with the region topping the table of cases per 100,000 of the population.

The local authority currently has 171 according to Public Health Scotland data, compared to just 87 in East Ayrshire and 79 in North Ayrshire.

It is also higher than the cases per 100,000 figure in cities like Glasgow with 147 and Edinburgh, which has 149. The average across Scotland is 88.

Public Health Director at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, Lynne McNiven said last week, "We just have to be very vigilant in what we are doing.

"We will see cases popping up in younger groups, and certainly within children, so it's just trying to minimise the impact.

"If the virus is moving around freely, there is more of a chance that it will start to mutate and change.

"We want to minimise the contact and minimise the spread as much as possible.

"You should always imagine you have the virus. You will never pass it on to anyone because you will be staying two metres back, washing your hands and wearing your mask.

"It's just thinking about others."
