A second man has been killed in a crash on a section of the A76 just hours after a motorcyclist died nearby.

The 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident just south of the B713 Catrine Junction after the blue Ford Focus Zetec he was driving left the road and collided with a tree.

The incident happened just after 10 pm on Monday and comes just hours after a 34-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on the A76 between Kilmarnock and Mauchline.

Road police officers are appealing for information and dashcam footage of anyone who may have seen or been in the area at the time of both accidents.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham of Irvine Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area, and who witnessed the crash, to please get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in the area and who may have dashcam footage to contact us.

“If you believe you can assist our enquiries, please call 101, quoting incident 4200 of 20 May, 2024.”

Last year, Ayrshire politicians raised concerns about the road safety of that section of the A76.

Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley MSP Elena Whitham, and Ballochmyle ward councillor William Lennox described the busy stretch of the Catrine road-end at the B713/A76 junction as an accident blackspot.
