Where the Scottish Premiership clubs might do business in the transfer window
The January transfer window is open with some deals already done in advance. Here, Press Association Sport looks at the 12 Ladbrokes Premiership clubs' plans.
Aberdeen : The Dons have secured the return of wide man Niall McGinn following a brief spell in South Korea and that could be the extent of their business.
Manager Derek McInnes said: `In terms of numbers I'm happy with the squad. There may be some flexibility with one or two from the squad with loans and these will be discussions we'll be having over the course of the next few weeks. If the window was to close with the squad we've got then I'd be more than happy. When you've got a player that becomes available with the quality of McGinn you've got to make things like that happen. If something similar came up in another position then we might try something.'
Celtic: The champions have strengthened their injury-hit defence with the arrival of 32-year-old Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig and have been linked with a move for Dundee centre-back Jack Hendry. Injuries to wingers Jonny Hayes and Patrick Roberts could also spark arrivals. Brighton have admitted interest in striker Moussa Dembele and the likes of Liam Henderson and Erik Sviatchenko could be moved on. With money to spend from Virgil van Dijk's sell-on fee, January could be a busy month at Celtic Park.
Manager Brendan Rodgers said: `There will probably be players going out that want games. It will be a revolving door in the month of January, so certainly we want to strengthen.'
Dundee: Out-of-favour goalkeeper Scott Bain has joined Hibernian while striker A-Jay Leitch-Smith's loan from Shrewsbury is expiring soon. Jack Hendry's future could further dictate matters while the likes of James Vincent and Kosta Gadzhalov could move on after struggling for game time.
Manager Neil McCann told the Evening Telegraph: `If you ask any manager, it's the same, there's a wee Christmas list and I'm no different from the kids - I'm looking for something come Christmas and, if I can get a player in in the January sales, that would do me nicely.'
Hamilton: Accies have been known to wheel and deal in January and will look to sign a defender after Georgios Sarris was told he had played his last game following a disciplinary issue.
Manager Martin Canning said: `It means we will be looking to bring in a centre-back. With Michael (Devlin) getting back fit as well we were thinking we would be okay, but if we are going to be one down, we will look to bring someone else in.'
Hearts: Jamie Walker is in the final six months of his contract and looked likely to depart but missed Saturday's trip to Aberdeen with a knee injury. The club's lengthy injury list could determine their business and they will be under pressure to recruit better players than they did 12 months ago.
Manager Craig Levein said: `A creative, goalscoring good footballer, those are the types of things we are looking for. A winger who has speed, a left-back, those are the priorities but I don't know if we're going to lose anybody. If we do then I will have to start looking at other things as well.'
Hibernian: Scotland squad goalkeeper Bain has already arrived to provide competition for Ofir Marciano after Ross Laidlaw underwent shoulder surgery.
Head coach Neil Lennon said: `I don't imagine we will do a huge amount of business. I am pretty happy with the squad I have got but if we can add one or two that would be great.'
Kilmarnock: After going six games unbeaten, Killie could stick with the squad they have but the likes of Jordan Jones could attract bids. Stuart Findlay's loan deal from Newcastle is due to expire this month.
Manager Steve Clarke told Press Association Sport: `We're at a club where if somebody comes for one of our players, we'd have to consider it if it was a decent bid. So far, there is no sign of any decent bids but if we have to react to the market, that's what we will do.'
Motherwell: Stephen Robinson wants two strikers following Louis Moult's £500,000 switch to Preston plus a right-sided defender for cover. But there could be more comings and goings at Fir Park after Motherwell picked up one point from a possible 21 during an injury-hit December.
Manager Robinson said: `I'm well aware of what we need to do, and I'll get busy doing that. There are people playing for their futures but I will freshen things up and make sure we get people in at the top end of the pitch.'
Partick Thistle: The Jags went into new year with nine players injured and have survived for months with only one recognised full-back in Paul McGinn following injuries to Mustapha Dumbuya, Callum Booth and Christie Elliott, although James Penrice is due to return from a loan spell with Livingston.
Alan Archibald said: `We have to make sure we are stronger coming out the January window, whether that's through the injuries coming back or strengthening the side, because we can't go through the five months we have been through again. We want to have natural full-backs out there. We need to get clarity on the injuries as soon as we can so we know if we need to get fresh personnel in.'
Rangers: Rangers are understood to be targeting four new players while Josh Windass was the subject of a failed bid by Preston and the likes of Carlos Pena could move on following a largely unsuccessful summer transfer campaign by sacked boss Pedro Caixinha.
Manager Graeme Murty said: `We are moving forward. We are identifying people and work is ongoing behind the scenes. Plans are always subject to change, whether it be due to injury or other people looking at our footballers. We have to be flexible and capable to react to those because no one is really surprised by anything that happens in football.'
Ross County: Chairman Roy McGregor has proved willing to splash the cash in January beforehand and their position at the bottom of the table means they could be the busiest club in Scotland. Manager Owen Coyle signed free agent Chris Eagles after replacing Jim McIntyre in September and wants to put his stamp on the squad.
Coyle told Press Association Sport: `We've always said since we came in that there was an imbalance in the squad, and it's a bit top heavy in certain positions but lacking numbers in others. We have a list, as you do, and that's why the first week of January will be important.'
St Johnstone: Saints hope to extend Michael O'Halloran's loan deal but have been struggling to get any answers from Rangers or his agent. Striker David McMillan has arrived from Dundalk while Graham Cummins has gone the other way to Cork City, and young defender Ally Gilchrist was released. Defender Jason Kerr and striker Chris Kane are due to return from loan spells with Queen of the South.
Manager Tommy Wright told Press Association Sport: `I don't really know what I'm able to bring in. I haven't really been given an exact figure to what I can spend, which obviously complicates things a little bit because I like to get it done early. It could be more the end of January when we do our business.'
