Police investigate suspicious fire in Kilwinning

The door of a house was deliberately set on fire in Treesbank.

An investigation is underway following a suspicious fire in Kilwinning.

Around 2.10am on Thursday 9 August 2018 the door of a house was deliberately set on fire in Treesbank.

Emergency services attended and the blaze was put out. No-one was within the property at the time of the incident, however, the door is completely destroyed and the property itself has suffered extensive smoke damage.

Officers have been reviewing CCTV footage for any details a hooded figure, wearing dark coloured clothing is spotted near the property around the time of the incident.

Detective Constable Steven Ferry said: “The motive for this fire is unknown, thankfully, no-one was injured but the person’s home has been extensively damaged by smoke and the incident has left them extremely upset.

“I am appealing to local residents who may have seen or heard something which they dismissed at the time to consider if what they saw or heard is relevant, any small piece of information could prove vital in helping us identify who is responsible for this criminality.”
