Police appeal after elderly man, 71, assaulted and robbed in Ayr street

The incident took place on Viewfield Road on Thursday evening

Police have issued an appeal for information after an elderly man was robbed in the street in Ayr on Thursday evening.

The 71-year-old was walking on Viewfield Road, near to Nelson Place, at around 7.45pm when he was assaulted and robbed of a two-figure sum of cash.

The man sustained minor injuries but has been left shaken by the incident.

The suspects have only been described as wearing dark clothing.

Officers are keen to trace a female dog walker who assisted the man after the incident.

Detective Constable Stuart McCulloch, from Ayr CID, said: “Nobody should fear going for a walk and therefore it is vital we trace those responsible.

“We’re appealing to anyone who was in the Viewfield Road area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious to please come forward.

“We are also keen to trace a female dog walker who assisted the man after the incident. If this was you, please come forward as you may have information that can help us.”
