Pensioner Critical In Hospital After M77 Crash

A 75 year old man is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on the M77 near Fenwick.

A pensioner is in a critical condition following a crash on the M77 on Wednesday 8 July 2015.

Around 1.40pm, a red Ford Fiesta and a white Renault Kangoo, both travelling north, collided near to Junction 7 at Fenwick.

A 75 year old man, who was the rear seat passenger of the Fiesta was seriously injured.

He has been taken by ambulance to the South Glasgow University Hospital where staff describe his condition as critical.

The 44 year old female driver of the Fiesta and her 15 year old male front seat passenger were taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital but both have been released following treatment.

The 26 year old male driver of the Renault Kangoo was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital suffering from head and chest injuries, however, at this time they are not thought to be serious.

Sergeant Andy Johnston, Divisional Road Policing Unit, Irvine, is appealing for witnesses. He said:

“A number of cars had stopped on the road due to road works when the crash happened so I would appeal to them, or anyone who saw the crash take place, to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Irivine via 101 with any information they may have."
