Ayrshire is set for a weekend of disruption and multiple closures of streets with thousands of people set to travel to one seaside town.

Police have warned people to plan their journey ahead of time as Orange Lodge Parades get ready to march through the town centre of Ayr on Saturday 2 July.

Around 3000 people are expected to travel to the town tomorrow, with 27 flute bands from orange lodges marching throughout the day as part of a 'Boyne celebration' organised by County Grand Lodge of Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Argyll.

Up to 13 roads will be closed or restricted by police at some point during the day with two separate marches getting underway.

Event to 'policed appropriately'.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of the event, and it will be policed appropriately.

“The parade will take place in the town centre and is likely to cause traffic disruption. Please plan ahead for any journeys.”

Two marching routes

The first route will begin at 11:30am

The first march is set to begin at 11:30am at Low Green with a finish time still to be confirmed, but another march will then begin at 2:30pm at the same place.

The first route will make it’s way to Wellington Square via the war memorial. It will then march down Alloway Place, along Miller Road, Alloway Street, and up High Street.

Finally it will march down Sandgate and back towards the Low Green via Wellington Square again.

The second march beginning at 2:30pm will also begin at the Low Green, but it has a shorter route.

This time it will walk down the esplanade toward Blackburn Drive. It will then make it’s way down Seafield Road and along to Racecourse View where it will finish.

The second route will begin at 2:30pm
