Full list of Ayrshire schools closed due to teacher strikes

Multiple secondary and primary schools will be impacted by the industrial action on Wednesday 7 December

Multiple schools across all three council areas in Ayrshire will be closed next week due to industrial action.

Teachers from two separate unions will go on strike on Wednesday 7 December, with the walk-out set to impact dozens of schools.

The Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) are spearheading the day of action all across Scotland.

However, it mainly impacts secondary schools and most primary schools will be open as normal.

What schools will be closed?

North Ayrshire

Ardrossan Academy (fully closed)

Auchenharvie Academy (fully closed)

Garnock Community Campus (fully closed)

Greenwood Academy (fully closed)

Irvine Royal Academy (fully closed)

Kilwinning Academy (fully closed)

St Matthew’s Academy (fully closed)

Largs Academy – open to S5-6 pupils to allow scheduled prelims to take place as planned.

Stanley Primary School (closed to P4 and P5 pupils only)

Whiting Bay Primary School (fully closed)

All other primary schools, early years classes and standalone early years centres will remain fully open to all children and young people as normal.

South Ayrshire

Prestwick Academy (fully closed)

Ayr Academy (fully closed)

Kyle Academy (fully closed)

Belmont Academy (fully closed)

Queen Margaret Academy (fully closed).

The following schools will also be affected by the industrial action:

Marr College - closed to S1, S2 & S3 pupils only.

Carrick Academy - closed to S1, S2 & S3 pupils only.

S4, S5 and S6 pupils should attend Marr College and Carrick Academy as normal on Wednesday 7 December.

Girvan Academy - open as normal on Wednesday 7 December.

East Ayrshire

All secondary schools will be closed in East Ayrshire.

All other ASN schools will be open as normal.

An East Ayrshire Council Spokesperson said: “At this stage, we hope that all primary schools will be able to open.

“We are working with colleagues on arrangements for those pupils who require access to a Free School Meal and you will be advised of this in due course.”
